Old Testament Survey 1

The Intro

Old Testament Survey I provides an overview of the message of the Old Testament, both at the level of individual books and within the larger canon of Scripture. Students will not only grasp the main theme of each book but also see how each contributes to the Bible’s overarching message (big picture). In this first part of the survey, we will trace the flow of redemptive history from creation to the rise of King David (Genesis–2 Samuel). Above all, the class will highlight how the Old Testament points forward to Christ, prepares the way for His coming, and finds its fulfillment in Jesus the Messiah.

The Goals

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • Understand how key Old Testament passages fit into the storyline of redemptive history.
  • Explain the central message of each Old Testament book and how it contributes to the overarching message of Scripture.
  • Recognize how the entire Old Testament points to, anticipates, and is fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
  • Deepen their worship of God by treasuring Him above all else in heart and life.

The Expectations

This class is open to anyone junior high age and older. Students may participate at different levels of commitment depending on their ability and interest:
